What is Electronic Nerve Stimulation?
Electrode pads are placed over the painful area of the body or at key points along the nerve pathway. A compact battery powered device emits the electrical signals through lead wires to the electrodes.
A muscle pumping action will relieve stiffness and tiredness in the muscle by extending and contracting the muscle. Fresh blood rushes into the relaxed muscle and then the blood containing ‘waste’ is flushed out when the muscle contracts. This repeated muscle pumping process improves blood flow and relieves shoulder stiffness, tired legs and cramps.
By applying low-frequency signals to the painful area, the nerves near this area undergo excitation, which affects the pain-transmission mechanism (inhibits pain messages) towards the spinal cord, although this has a relatively short effect the sense of pain is relieved. Electrical waves also stimulate the body to produce natural morphine like substances (endorphins). These have a longer effect of 5-12 hours.
For relief of stiff shoulders, tired legs, cramp or numbness in legs, back pain, neuralgia, muscle pain, painful joints and other acute or chronic pains.
They have been shown to be effective for many people and for a variety of complaints. They have few side effects and are safe and non-intrusive. Added to this fact there is no medication involved and therefore can be used in conjunction with other treatments. They are compact and easy to use and can be used in almost any situation.
